If you heard a bell ringing this afternoon, it was because school was IN SESSION.
I'm not kidding.

I've been coached in one way or another since I was a high school student. I bet you have, too.
There were teen sports, internships, rookie teacher years, seasoned professional and leadership mentors...I've had 'em all.

Over the years, I've invested a lot in coaching, from single sessions all the way up to a six month package that cost more than my first car.

Today, I had my first coaching session through my EFCA membership with Sean McCormick.
It was the best coaching session I've EVER had.

-Sean was really skilled at keeping us focused. I'm a chatty, ADHD adult with a lot of ideas. He made me feel heard while keeping us productive and moving forward.

-I was held accountable. I don't need a coach to tell me I'm smart, or hard working, or that I've already accomplished some stuff - and he didn't waste any of my time. Sean was able to laser in on the true pain point, which I wouldn't have been able to name had you asked me, by really LISTENING to what I was saying. And when I tried to avoid dealing with it by changing the subject, he circled us back.

-I've often felt "uncoachable." I want help, but I have big, outsized, messy ideas. My thoughts are racing, and I can derail any conversation. Not with Sean: he broke through.

-The whole session, he modeled brilliant strategies I can also use for working with kids - I wish the call was recorded so I could review it. It was genius. There's nothing like learning to do something well by watching someone else do it well. Huge impact.

-We identified the most powerful action step to meet my top goal, and then he got me started by doing it with me, making it seem totally effortless. You know how, when you want to be successful but you're in your own way - and too many options are making your head hurt - you just want someone to do it with you? That's what we did. What's even better is this: now that we got the ball rolling, I have the tools to keep it moving and the confidence to know that I can.

Just like the EFCA course, the coaching with Sean delivers far more value than a person can reasonably expect. I'm so glad I did it.
